First Transfer Slab in UT’s West Campus is under construction. The innovative team (Mark Hart Architecture, C|P|H Structural Engineering, Motivado Group) that applied these clever techniques have made their clients very happy by increasing density and rent-able units while making it easier and faster to design the floor plans by utilizing transfer slabs.

A transfer slab is used to transfer all the weight from the floors above to the supporting elements below the transfer level. Therefore, the columns above the transfer slab do not need to be stacked on the columns below the transfer slab, thus allowing freedom for the architect to arrange columns to best suit the spaces at these levels.
